Our Impact
Transforming lives through the power of mountain biking, nature and connection
Boundless Trails CIC exists to support people who are struggling with low mood, anxiety, isolation and confidence. Our flagship programme, Trails to Wellbeing, provides, trauma-aware mountain biking sessions for anyone aged 12+, referred by GPs, CAMHS, mental health teams and community link workers.
We believe that when people feel safe, supported and connected in nature, real change happens — on and beyond the bike.
What It Is
A referral-based programme offering up to six free 1:1 or very small-group sessions, with all equipment provided — including e-bikes. Each session is adapted to the individual: some focus on confidence, some on skills, and others are simply a ride, a chat and time outdoors.
Who We Support
We work with a wide range of people referred by GPs, Link Workers, CAMHS, mental health teams and families. Although Trails to Wellbeing is designed for ages 12+, we have also supported a small number of younger riders (from age 9) when appropriate. Our participants include both young people and adults — boys, girls, men and women — each with their own unique circumstances and support needs.
The individuals referred to us so far have experienced:
Anxiety and social anxiety
Low mood and depression
Social isolation or difficulty joining groups
PTSD and trauma-related challenges
Autism and neurodiversity-related needs
Aggressive or reactive behaviour linked to stress or emotional overwhelm
We work gently, patiently and at each person’s pace. Many of the people referred to us have not felt able to take part in traditional sports or group activities. Through calm, 1:1 support, time in nature and the simple joy of being on a bike, we help people build confidence, connection and a sense of safety — often for the first time in a long time.
How Trails to Wellbeing Creates Change
Trails to Wellbeing creates meaningful change by combining calm support, time in nature, and achievable challenges. Our approach is simple, trauma-aware, and grounded in what each person needs on the day.
Supportive, person-centred sessions
Participants are met with patience, understanding and no pressure. We adapt every session to the individual — whether they need quiet time in the woods, gentle encouragement, or help building confidence on the bike.
Time in nature as a therapeutic tool
Being outdoors reduces stress, lifts mood and helps people feel grounded. Movement, fresh air and natural spaces create an environment where worries ease and people can open up safely.
Achievable challenges that build confidence
Small wins — completing a short trail, trying a new skill, riding a little further — create powerful moments of pride. These achievements translate into improved self-belief beyond the bike.
Connection without pressure
Many participants struggle socially, so we offer gentle opportunities for connection. Over time, people feel ready to join group rides like Active Recovery Moray or other community cycling groups.
A pathway to long-term wellbeing
We don’t just deliver six sessions and stop. When someone is ready, we support onward progression into friendly, welcoming local ride groups — helping them stay active, connected and confident.
Impact at a Glance
As a new referral-based programme, Trails to Wellbeing focuses on deep, person-centred support rather than large numbers. Since launching in mid-September (2025), we have:
Received 15 referrals from Maryhill GP Practice, Forres GP Practice, CAMHS at Dr Gray’s, Moray Council Social Work and Buckie High School
Supported 7 participants through 1:1 nature-based sessions
Seen 2 participants complete the full Trails to Wellbeing programme
Supported 1 participant to transition into a local community cycling group — a full journey from referral to long-term community connection
These early outcomes demonstrate growing trust from healthcare and social care professionals, and the meaningful impact that calm support, movement and time in nature can have on people’s wellbeing.
